Man vs Man?
What defines exactly what a man is? Is it the man who comes home smelly with dirt on his hands? Or is it a man who prims and propers his look? There are those who feel that a real man keeps his hair because it after all it is how a man is made. And then we have the men who want to shave all their hair and look clean, smell good because most feel that is what a woman is looking for. But in all honesty men just want to look good. Society has played very well into this way of thinking. Men shouldn’t be beer drinkers with beer gut, and untrimmed beards looking all disheveled. Both the video and the reading discuss this. What they both bring to the table is, that it is now socially acceptable in America for the man to take care of himself. What used to be prejudgments towards them is now no longer considered faux pas. What I do think is important to say is that, men just want to be able to feel comfortable in their own skin. They want to be able to grow a beard and not be judge. They want to be able to smell amazing and shave their body without being told they’re not man enough.
The reading picks up on the gay community and how much this has helped men to keep more in touch with how they look. Gay men are able to freely be comfortable in their skin. They are able to come to a point in their life and accept who they are. I feel that this has shown men they too can accept their choices. In all aspects there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good. It creates a sense of confidence and THAT is what most women look for: confidence and secure in ones self. And... please smell good? ;)
